About the show
A podcast that works like a neighbor’s recommendation.
South of SF introduces you to the Peninsula businesses your neighbors actually rely on, in the owners’ own words, before you ever pick up the phone.
The show
Local voices. Real businesses.
South of SF launched in July 2025 with a simple idea: the best way to find a pro you can trust is to hear them talk. Not an ad, not a review written by a stranger, a real conversation with the person who will actually show up at your door, sit across the desk, or answer your call.
Every episode is an unscripted, in-person conversation with the owner behind a Peninsula business, from South San Francisco down the Peninsula. Roofers, realtors, bookkeepers, jewelers, attorneys: people who live here, work here, and stake their name on doing right by their neighbors.
The show doubles as a directory. Every guest lives on the Find a Pro page with their episode and a direct link to their website, so listening turns into hiring in two clicks. And when the right fit isn’t listed yet, Ranger will make a personal introduction. Connecting people is the whole point.

Ranger is a coach, consultant, and Bay Area transplant who has made it his business to know who everybody is on the Peninsula, and who you can trust. Through Within Range Coaching and his work as a San Mateo SBDC business advisor, he helps local owners grow businesses worth recommending.
He also helps people find those businesses. As the Visit Half Moon Bay Coordinator with the Coastside Chamber of Commerce and president of his BNI chapter in Menlo Park, Ranger spends his days making introductions between Peninsula neighbors and the pros who can help them. South of SF is that work, on the record: the same conversations he’d have with you over coffee, recorded so the whole neighborhood can listen in.
Podcasting is his medium of choice. Ranger has produced and hosted multiple shows, including the Within Range Coaching podcast, Foggy Farmer, and The Growth Point, and he has taught Podcasting 101 workshops for business owners getting started behind the mic. With Expert Frequency, his podcast production company, he helps other experts do the same.
His promise to listeners is the one he opens every episode with: keep it local, keep it real. If a business is on this show, Ranger has sat across from the owner, asked them the hard questions, and would hand you their number himself.
How it works
Hear them, then hire them
Listen
A real, unscripted conversation with the person behind a local business. No sales pitch, just how they think and how they treat people.
Decide
Get a feel for whether they’re your kind of pro before you ever pick up the phone. Twenty minutes of listening beats twenty tabs of reviews.
Connect
Every listing links straight to the pro’s own website. Not sure who you need? Ask Ranger and he’ll point you to someone he trusts.
